Framed vs Frameless vs Slimline Wardrobe Doors: Which Is Right for You?

November 2025 · 6 minute read · By the Wardrobes2U team, custom wardrobe doors since 2003

Frameless white glass and mirror three door sliding wardrobe

Quick answer: Framed is the best value and the widest choice (from $420, every insert including Gyprock). Slimline is the space saver, with a bottom track 25 to 41mm narrower, for shallow cupboards and tight reveals (from $499). Frameless is the premium minimal look with edge to edge mirror or glass (from $690). All three are Australian made to your measurements on the Gold Coast, priced instantly online, delivered FREE to eligible Gold Coast, Tweed Heads and Byron Bay areas by our own team, and come with a 5 year warranty. Easy DIY installation from just 30 minutes, or our own installers fit them.

Choosing between the three Wardrobes2U door styles comes down to three questions: how much room you have in front of the wardrobe, which insert you want, and how minimal you want the frame to look. Here's how they compare, with the numbers.

Framed sliding wardrobe doors: best value, widest choice

From $420. A full aluminium frame around every panel in your choice of six frame colours. Framed takes every insert we make: standard mirror, vinyl (Buff, Grey Shadow, Parchment, White Glacier), painted glass (Black, Clear Float, White Glass) and Gyprock supplied raw for painting, so the doors can match the wall. Double track 82mm, triple track 122mm.

Choose Framed if: you want the most options for the least money. It's the go-to for bedrooms, kids' rooms, laundries, hallways and rentals, and the only style that takes Gyprock inserts.

Slimline sliding wardrobe doors: space saving

From $499. Fully framed like Framed, but with a narrower profile and a different bottom frame and wheel system. The bottom track is 57mm on a double (25mm narrower than Framed) and 81mm on a triple (41mm narrower). Six frame colours, with mirror, vinyl and painted glass inserts. Gyprock isn't available in Slimline.

Choose Slimline if: depth is tight. Shallow built-ins, laundry cupboards and hallway robes where the reveal won't take a standard track, or where every centimetre of hanging space matters.

Frameless sliding wardrobe doors: the minimal look

From $690. Minimal visible framing so the mirror or glass runs edge to edge. Six frame colours, mirror in Standard, Bronze and Grey, and painted glass in Black, Clear Float and White Glass. Vinyl and Gyprock aren't available in Frameless. Tracks are the same 82mm double and 122mm triple as Framed.

Choose Frameless if: you want the doors to be the feature. Master bedrooms, walk in robes and new builds where a clean, luxury finish is the point.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between framed and frameless wardrobe doors?

Framed doors have a full aluminium frame around every panel and take every insert, including vinyl and Gyprock, from $420. Frameless doors have minimal visible framing so the mirror or glass runs edge to edge, in mirror or painted glass only, from $690.

When should I choose Slimline doors?

When depth is tight. Slimline's bottom track is 57mm on a double door (25mm narrower than Framed) and 81mm on a triple (41mm narrower), so it suits shallow built-ins, laundries and hallway robes.

Can I mix mirror and glass on the same wardrobe?

Yes. All three styles are available in the Combo range, so you can mix inserts across the doors, for example mirror in the centre and white glass either side.

Which style is cheapest?

Framed, from $420 for a complete custom made door set. Slimline starts at $499 and Frameless at $690. Your exact price shows in the online builder before you order.

5 Signs It's Time to Replace Your Sliding Wardrobe Doors

January 2024 · 5 minute read · By the Wardrobes2U team, custom wardrobe doors since 2003

Frameless full mirror sliding wardrobe doors in a Gold Coast bedroom

Quick answer: If your wardrobe doors stick, sag, rattle, look dated or no longer suit the room, replacing them with custom made sliding doors is one of the cheapest bedroom upgrades there is. Wardrobes2U doors are made to your measurements on the Gold Coast from $420, priced instantly online, delivered FREE to eligible Gold Coast, Tweed Heads and Byron Bay areas by our own team, and you can fit them yourself from just 30 minutes or have our own installers do it. We've been making them since 2003, with over 20,000 orders supplied.

Your wardrobe doors open and close more often than any other door in the house. When they start to fail, the whole bedroom feels tired. Here are the five signs we see most, what's actually causing them, and what the fix costs.

1. They stick, sag or need a shove to open

Old hinged doors drop on their hinges. Older sliding doors run on worn plastic rollers and bent or dirty tracks, so they jump off, jam halfway or need two hands. Oiling the track buys a few weeks, not a fix.

The fix: A new sliding system with precision aluminium tracks and quality rollers. Modern doors glide with a fingertip and keep doing it for years, which is why ours carry a 5 year warranty on frames, tracks and hardware.

2. The room feels cramped

Hinged doors need a clear metre in front of them to swing open. In a smaller bedroom that's the difference between fitting a bed and a dresser or not. Mirrored sliding doors do the opposite: they make the room look bigger and bounce light around.

The fix: Switch to sliding doors. No swing space needed, and a full width mirror can visually double a small room. See our Framed, Slimline and Frameless door styles.

3. They look like the decade they were installed

Chipped timber veneer, mirrors with gold trim, plain white melamine that has yellowed. You can repaint the walls and buy new bedding and the wardrobe will still date the room.

The fix: Contemporary finishes. Matte black, white or brushed frames, clear or tinted mirror, vinyl or coloured glass inserts. Choose a combination in the online builder and see the price update as you go.

4. Clothes end up on the chair instead

When a wardrobe is annoying to get into, people stop using it properly. Doors that don't close, or only open halfway, are a big part of why bedrooms feel permanently messy.

The fix: Doors that open fully and close flush make the wardrobe easy to use again, and a full length mirror means you check your outfit at the wardrobe rather than draping clothes over the furniture.

5. You're renovating, building or refreshing the room

New paint, flooring or furniture with the old wardrobe doors left in place is money half spent. The same goes for a new build or a flip: wardrobe doors are the thing buyers and tenants notice first when they open the bedroom door.

The fix: Order the doors to the exact opening sizes on your plans or from your own measurements with our 5 minute measuring guide. Builders, carpenters and trades order supply only and we deliver when the site is ready; homeowners can add Professional Install in the builder and our own team fits them. No subcontractors either way.
